Matengo Miracles

A few weeks ago, we told you about John Kapuku, a 90 year-old Matengo-speaking man who received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. You can read more about him here. Three months after this, he passed away and went to be with the Lord.

After he passed away, we received a phone call from one of the Matengo translators, Eda Lupogo, and a Matengo pastor. They told us that in the last few months of his life, he was full of joy such as he had never experienced before he found the love of Jesus. He said that he had seen Jesus through the Word of God, and also through those of us who brought him food and clothing.

Since the day we first visited him months ago to give him food and clothing, Eda had been going to see him to pray with him, care for him, and read the Bible with him. Praise God for John’s life and for the peace, love, and joy he experienced before he died!

The Matengo pastors give thanks to God for their people coming to Jesus and their lives being transformed, just like John’s. Please continue to pray for those working on the rest of the Matengo translation so that they might have access to all of God’s Word in their heart language!

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them…” Romans 10:14, NIV

And how can people truly understand the Word of God unless they can read or hear it in their mother tongue?

There is a man in Ethiopia named Galaso Gambazo. He is 45, married, and has 5 children. He heard the Word of God in his heart language (Dawro) for the first time through an evangelist. The story he heard was from John chapter 4, the one about the Samaritan woman who meets Jesus at the well. The evangelist was reading and explaining this story to Galaso Gambazo, telling him about the water which gives life and never runs out, unlike ordinary water. Mr. Gambazo understood what was told to him and he came to believe in Jesus Christ as his personal savior. His life was transformed by the Word of God, which was translated into his heart language. God is always at work through his Word!
