Bible Translation: A Key to a Personal Relationship With Jesus
March 18, 2021

Reading Scripture is fundamental to knowing who God is and being able to follow Jesus. Paul says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17.For many people, being able to read Scripture is inaccessible. God does not and has never wanted that. In the days when Scripture was contemporary, it was written in familiar, accessible language. Unfortunately, that is not always so in our time, and not having an easily accessible Bible prevents millions of people from forming a relationship with Jesus. Those people have to go up the mountain. In reality, Jesus wants to come to us and bring us up the mountain alongside him. For example: in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is very powerful. Of the total Christian population in Ethiopia, which is about 46 million people, 32 million belong to the Orthodox Church. Ge'ez, an ancient language, is the language of their Orthodox Bible. There is an Amharic version available, but that is not the mother tongue for many people in Ethiopia. It is especially not the language of most people in rural Ethiopia. As a result, many Christians in Ethiopia go to church, hear the liturgy in Ge'ez, have a sermon in their language, and read Scripture in another. Even if you can fluently speak and read a different language, there is nothing quite like reading or speaking your own language. To many people around the globe, God does not speak their language. He is locked away behind a language not their own.You don't even have to imagine the look on their face when they realize that God does speak their language; just look at the picture above. Those are the faces of people who realize that God is speaking to them in their mother tongue. When you support The Word for the World, you are not just taking part in the ministry of Bible translation.
