As 2024 dawned, a devastating earthquake rocked Japan. New Year’s resolutions wiped out by the harsh reality of a fallen world in birth pains ahead of the return of the Lord Jesus. The true light shines like a beacon of hope amidst the fear and uncertainty…
I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:20b
In the light of this knowledge, how will the body of Christ go and grow in a tumultuous 2024? Our Father has given us the most precious gift of the I will promises in His Word. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture is packed with I will statements from God. He doesn’t leave us guessing how our story will develop because He is kind, and He knows we need something firm to hold on to living in a dark world. Dave Jenkins says, “These promises can bear the full weight of our lives because behind them is the character of an unchanging God who is faithful and true to His Word”. Christians can trust the body of Christ will indeed both go and grow because…
I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18
This year, The Word for the World anticipates more people than ever before in history will access the I will promises of God in their own languages. But heart-language Bible translation work is tough and comes at a cost. Some indigenous translators in Asia report how treacherous it is for them just to travel to receive Diploma in Bible Translation training. One man tried his best to travel on foot through forests and over unpopulated hills to avoid the army on the main roads. But he was caught and held at gun point; the soldier demanded to know where he was going. If he said it was for Bible translation, he would have been immediately shot. But before the frightened translator could answer, God intervened, and a senior official told the soldier to leave the traveler alone. This inspiring brother in Christ says passion burns in his heart to bring the Scriptures to his people because they have never had the Word in a language they can truly grapple with and understand deeply. One wonders, did he know any of God’s promises as he faced that gun?
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:18
It takes courage to act. Empowered by the Spirit, full of biblical truth, Christians around the world will see His kingdom come and His will be done in 2024. Courageous believers globally pray expectantly and confidently. Because of the sovereignty of God, we know that there will be many more added to our family in 2024. One heart-language audio or written Bible at a time. Light, courage, action!
I will not forsake you.
