When the Word Reaches the Mind

In this world of constant change, isn’t it comforting to know God does not change, and His Word endures forever?
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” — Isaiah 40:8, NIV
Faith grows when we understand who God is and what He has done. The Holy Spirit uses Scripture to open our minds so we can comprehend truth, trust Christ, and walk in obedience with Him.
This is why indigenous Bible translation matters so deeply.
Around the world, more than 3,000 language communities still lack the full Bible in the language they understand best. Without the Word of God in the language spoken in the home, God our Father can feel distant. When Scripture speaks in the language of everyday life, the message begins to take hold of the heart and mind.
When a community takes ownership of Scripture in their language, people begin to understand God’s kingdom. Those who once walked in darkness now possess the light of Truth.
When Understanding Awakens Faith
In the Ndali community of Malawi, oral Bible translation is making all the difference. Several shared how listening to Scripture in their language helped them understand God’s Word clearly for the first time.
One man testified that he could finally follow Jesus' stories without confusion. For years, this frustrated believer had listened but struggled to grasp their meaning. Now he understands more of the Kingdom than ever before, and this renewed understanding has stirred a desire to attend church regularly.
A young person who attended a listening session shared that hearing the gospel in Ndali led him to turn away from harmful behavior and return to prayer and fellowship.
Some Ndali families have begun using translated Scripture during evening devotions. Parents and children are talking together about what they hear, and communication has improved, bringing greater unity to their homes.
When our minds understand Truth, conviction follows, and the Holy Spirit empowers change. As newfound freedom in Christ reshapes behavior, homes and churches grow stronger for God’s glory. From personal revelation to community transformation, the Word of God impacts entire communities.
Scripture comprehension is essential to discipleship.
“Now We Can Definitely Understand”
In another language community, new believers have begun to accept the Lord as they hear the Word in their mother tongue. After Sunday services, they come to the translation team praising God. These enthusiastic Christians say nothing has helped them more than having Scripture in their own language.
As one community member shared, before they only assumed they understood God, but now His Word is clear.
Lasting evangelism and missions depend on well-communicated Gospel truth. Discipleship depends on understanding Truth, while evangelism depends on proclaiming it. God’s Word in heart languages is imperative to Kingdom growth in every corner of the world. In order to disciple the nations, the Word must be translated into the languages of the people.
From Formal Religion to Transformed Life
Tamandani, an oral Bible translator in Malokotera, Malawi, shared his story. Before knowing God personally, he admits he prayed out of duty alone. He struggled with drinking, drug abuse, and adultery.
Through daily devotions, translation work, and prayer gatherings centered on Scripture, his understanding of God deepened. As he translated and heard the Word in his language, Truth moved from words on a page to conviction in his heart.
Tamandani repented of addiction and adultery and began to love and respect his wife. Today, he serves as a role model in his community—preaching, organizing Sunday school, and bringing the Word of God to others in his mother tongue.
This is discipleship which glorifies God, and makes us new creations.
Looking Toward Easter
As Easter approaches, Christians reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Scripture proclaims His life, sacrifice, and victory for all to hear. Through Scripture, the lost find their Savior. Pray for millions still waiting to hear the Easter story clearly in their own language.
And this March, please pray for those receiving Scripture for the first time. Pray the Holy Spirit opens minds, strengthens faith, and deepens understanding. Pray for families gathering around God’s Word and that churches will grow in maturity.
This Easter, The Word for the World is grateful that God’s Word endures forever. We rejoice in the gift of Scripture illuminated by the Spirit, which reaches the mind and takes root in the heart, transforming lives for Christ’s glory. And we’re thankful for you, and the Body of Christ as we seek God’s kingdom come and His will be done in all the earth.
