Delivered from darkness to light—this is the story God writes through His Word.

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” – 2 Corinthians, 4:6 NIV

Joyful Christians enter this new year with hope in Christ’s light,  strengthened by the privilege of walking together.

Believers share the unshakable conviction that no language group is forgotten by God and rejoice in testimonies that prove it. Across the world, communities once without Scripture now move from forgotten to forever, changed through God’s powerful Word and the Holy Spirit’s illumination.

Turn the page with us in 2026, and experience the next chapter of God’s story unfold among the nations.

When people encounter God’s Word in their language, everything changes—hearts, homes, churches, even generations.

Nara* discovered this for herself. Until this young, newly reborn Christian read the Bible in her own language, she thought marriage was an empty cultural tradition. But Scripture revealed God’s design for marriage, and her heart changed forever. Nara began praying for a future shaped by Him, for a husband who loves and follows the Lord. This quiet turning of her heart is what new life looks like when God’s Word speaks in a language people understand.

Yet more than 3,000 language communities worldwide still lack the life-giving opportunity we experience each time we open our Bibles.

Bibleless believers long to hear their heavenly Father speak clearly through the words of Moses, David, Solomon, the prophets, the apostles, and Jesus. When Scripture reaches these precious Christians in their heart language, change is imminent. Truth breaks into faith-filled lives. Hope rises. Scripture––illuminated by the Spirit–– moves God’s people from spiritual darkness to life-giving light.

Many in these communities do not yet know the living God. The need is urgent: Lost people must encounter the Gospel through God’s unchanging Word. Without Scripture—taught by the Spirit and embodied by the church—how can people unaware of Christ be evangelized and discipled?

This is the power of God’s Word in the languages He created. This is what Christians celebrate in 2026: the lasting, generational renewal that begins the moment the lamp of Scripture is lit in a community.

A LIGHT LONG PROMISED

The movement from darkness to light echoes throughout Scripture. God’s promise is clear in Isaiah 9:2, ESV: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”

Isaiah portrays a people blinded by despair, living under the weight of spiritual night. Yet God intervenes. The Great Shepherd sends light strong enough to alter the course of lost lives. Darkness does not retreat slowly. It breaks at the sound of His Word.

When Scripture enters a community, Truth brings the same promise Isaiah proclaimed: light for those who walk in darkness.

This Asian translation team experienced God’s guidance as they worked through the opening chapters of Genesis. One translator reflected:

“While translating Scripture, our translation team discovered deeper meaning within God’s Word. Reading Genesis 1:3—‘Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light’—sparked long discussion. The team pictured a world covered in darkness until a single divine command transformed everything. Just as God’s Word brought light into creation, that same Word must shine in every language. Translating Scripture into our mother tongue felt like sending a ray of light into a waiting life. This work revealed that Bible translation does more than change words; it advances the Spirit’s work.”

This translation team’s experience mirrors that of translation teams worldwide: Transformation begins in translators’ hearts and minds before the first verse is ever shared publicly. Then Truth radiates outward towards others.

The Body of Christ plays a vital role in both being the light and sharing it with those still in darkness. Paul reminds us, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light…” Ephesians 5:8, NIV.

We live with a striking paradox. In many widely spoken languages, Scripture is abundant—an extravagant banquet of translations and versions. Meanwhile, nearly one-third of the world’s language communities still experience Bible famine.

This calling shapes The Word for the World’s passion to bring God’s light to every nation, tribe, and tongue. We respond by investing in communities and people, providing Bible translation training, and building infrastructure for sustainability

Our prayer is simple and urgent: every believer would hold God’s Word as a lamp to their feet and a light to their path. The need is immediate. The goal is within reach.

Many communities access Scripture only in a national language. Seekers hear God’s Word, yet cannot fully grasp it. Imagine experiencing a bad phone line––catching a word here and there but missing the message.

But when Scripture finally arrives in clear language, Jesus Christ lights the way.

LIGHT FOR THE HEART

Another translator from a sensitive region in Asia shares, “For years, the Bible felt distant and impersonal—a message meant for foreigners. But now, through this translation project, the Bible speaks to our hearts in our language. Truth shines into the darkness and reveals God’s love in a way never imagined. This work draws our community together, deepens our faith, and changes our lives. We are forever grateful to experience God’s Word in the language of our hearts.”

Think how Scripture shapes your life. Confusion gives way to clarity. Foolish decisions fade while wisdom takes root. Faith grows and relationships strengthen as the Lord works in us according to His good purposes.

This is the gift Christ’s body offers when we refuse to stop until all hear God’s truth in their language. When Holy Scripture reaches communities, darkness cannot remain. People are forever changed.

Celebrate the Light of the world who remembers every language and every people.

Please pray for translation teams in sensitive regions and for communities still waiting for Scripture. May God’s light reach every home and heart.

Through 2026, enjoy more transformation stories from around the world, testimonies of people moving from darkness to light through the power of God’s Word.
